Six More Miles

Paintings by Isak Applin

Isak Applin’s first solo exhibition at Roots & Culture features seven new canvases that expand upon his visionary exploration of narrative and landscape. Evoking the pastoral narratives of Bruegel the Elder, Applin adheres to a tradition of investigating the everyday scene, whether depicting folks fraternizing over a drink or embarking upon a journey through the land. Likewise, these canvases celebrate a certain intuitive sense of play reminiscent of Les Fauves in their acrobatic use of color and naivete of form. Applin weaves his stories of personal experiences and relationships to places and people through references to the history of painting.
