Tegan Brace & Bobbi Meier- Perspiration Glitz

New work by Tegan Brace & Bobbi Meier

Opening Friday, March 11th, 6-9 PM

In Perspiration Glitz, Tegan Brace uses inexpensive magic and theatrical devices to construct aesthetic atmospheres.  Her interests in process and materials have paved the way for new work using oozy, but static marbling, macaroni disco balls and everyday objects transformed into more absurd everyday objects.  She is motivated by psychedelic feminism, casualness, catharsis, and a need to party.

In Meier's work, abstract forms emerge from remembrances of disco dancing, Earth Wind & Fire, darkness, heat, perspiration and glitz. Materials are twisted into ambiguous shapes, stretched and entangled into anthropomorphic objects to engage sensibilities of seduction, revulsion, and humor.

Tegan Brace is a visual artist from Indiana who has been living and working in Chicago since 2007. She received her BFA from Appalachian State University in 2007 and an MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2014. Upon graduation, Brace has inserted her swiftly crafted objects and installations into public and private spaces in the greater Chicago area. She has exhibited her work with Third Object, 2nd Floor Rear, ADDS Donna, and Acre.

Bobbi Meier is a Chicago-based visual artist working in a variety of media. Ambiguity is a primary consideration in her work as she explores implications of the body to question viewer perception. She earned her MA in Art Education (2000), and MFA in Fiber and Material Studies (2011) at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Recent exhibitions include: The Second Terrain Biennial (Oak Park, IL), Glass Curtain Gallery (Chicago), The Franklin (Chicago). She has been awarded residencies at: The Vermont Studio Center (Johnson,VT), Ragdale (Lake Forest, IL), Ox-Bow (Saugatuck, MI), Anderson Ranch (Snowmass, CO). She is currently a Hatch Projects Resident at the Chicago Artists Coalition.
