Roots & Culture
On February 20, 2010, Roots & Culture gallery will host a screening of video work by Chicago artist Steven Summers. This program highlights two approaches to making video frequently employed by Summers: videos focusing on performances; and videos that utilize constructions, both cinematic constructions and artfully-constructed objects. Surveying his output over the past ten years, this screening will feature some of Summers’ earliest works, as well as the premiere of a new piece, Now That We Are Still.
Steven Summers grew up in the north suburbs of Pittsburgh, and received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has been exhibited and screened in numerous galleries and museums around the country. In both single channel and installation work, he explores a range of subjects, including thoughts on death, the anxiety of patriotism and the tenuous relationships with the ones he loves. Summers currently resides in Chicago.
